Everytime I bring it up he changes the subject! Our oldest is 14 and the others are 11 and 9. How can I bring this up with my husband?|||Like this : "let's start saving for our kids college education"
Simple. Insist. Don't let him change the subject.|||I would do some research on it, come up with some actual ideas/plans you can discuss, and then bring it up with him when he's relaxed and has some time to talk. I'm thinking maybe if you already have some concrete ideas then he'll be more likely to discuss it instead of just changing the subject. That's just me though:)|||You do some research and start putting money aside. Either you pay now or pay later.|||When he changes the subject get in front of him and say, calmy, stop avoiding my question and let's discuss this in a mature way, I have concerns.
If that doesn't work, you need to see a counselor.|||You don't. What you do tell him is this: The kids can live at home for free as long as they are in college and paying for it themselves.
There is 5 of us kids in my family and guess what? We had to pay for it all, by ourselves, with no help from them. We got to live at home for free.
Why are you just starting to save now? Do you realize that you will never have enough to put them through college. All 3 kids, I have no idea how much university costs these days but chances are its going to break you.
But if thats what you need to do, then go ahead and start saving for an education for your kids but I think they should have to pay for it themselves.|||Why do you have to pay for your kids to go to college? Why not let the military do it? Several thousand companies offer tuition reimbursement, and a good job when the degree is earned. My daughter is working in a dialysis clinic and getting her pre-reqs and nursing school paid for..I bought her a nice motorcycle for the tuition I saved.
Besides not everyone needs to go to college..what about tech schools? What about on the job training? NO ONE should have to pay for college, unless one is getting a worthless degree in things like Women's Studies, or Anthropology..I mean what the hell is a degree like that good for?
Have them get into anything medical, or anything in safety. even in a depression there are plenty of good paying jobs in those fields.|||Probably, maybe he doesn't feel like you should pay for your children's college education.
Keep in mind that you should save 6 months emergency fund and max out your retirement accounts before saving for college. Kids have a long time to repay loans, you will not have forever to work.
