What is wrong with the american education system. ?

Ive heard from lots of different people that the german and Japanese education system is more strict on their kids. i heard that germany splits their students up at an early age based on test scores that determine if they are college bound or not. i would like to hear your thoughts on the subject, and what you think could be done to save our education system. |||The public education system was built to educate the masses. The goal was a 'standard' education that had everyone equally ready to work in the factories. When it began the 'elite' were teaching their children in private schools (they still do!) or at home to prepare them for great colleges. It was never really designed for what we think it was designed for... educating individuals to their full potential. So what is wrong *is* the system.





There are two major problems:





1. We still have the 'standard' education goal, but we expect all students to have prepare for college. People are not equal... their abilities are not equal and their goals are not the same. Trying to teach everyone to conform doesn't get everyone to their goal. Particularly when schools are saddled with so many students whose only goal is to disrupt any educating that is taking place.





2. Even where we *see* and admit to problems in the system we can't 'pull over' to fix them. No matter what problems exist we can't stop the train... shut down the schools... and start them back up when we have a new and improved system in place. We have to try and correct the system while it is running... and we aren't all even sure which way it is headed or which way we would like it to head in the future.





What do we do? About public education? I have no idea. We must keep trying to fix it... because so many children have no other choice. But in the meantime... I'll be homeschooling my children. Keep them off the train and set them in the direction that is right for them!|||Professional Unions of Educators. Hang in there, get tenure. Cannot be terminated for incompetence.





Teachers know how to teach a subject, they do not know the subject they teach.





Some teach just for the joy of June, July, and August.|||well here if kids misbehave they don't give them any consequences i mean its a time out! oh wow just waisting 45 minutes from their life is really going to change them also like if they suspend them its like a little vacation i mean WTF???
