Private school is $35 K and higher per year per student; the diploma at most state schools is not worth much|||Interesting question - college will be difficult for many in the future - paychecks are not growing as fast as the cost of college . UCLA is a good school but there are lots of schools where the degree is almost worthless and the money spent for a college degree doesn't have a short term payback - perhaps young parents should be thinking of encouraging vocational schools - I don't have any faith in our govt with respect to jobs; I see resumes from college grads everyday and there are many of them out of work. Tough times for young families.|||No, we don't go out to dinner every week and buy nice clothes. What we do is support our family the best we can. We do not save for our kids higher education....we teach them to be independant, hard working, self reliant, responsible and if something is worth having, it is worth working for. They either currently are, or will be getting their higher education through their own means...scholarships, grants, student loans and working.|||First of all, a person earns a diploma in high school. One earns a DEGREE in college.
Second, who says that a degree from a state school isn't worth much? I'd like to see your research. Are you aware that UCLA is a state school? I have a Master's degree from a state school and I'm doing quite well, thank you.
Post your research and then maybe we can have an intelligent discussion.
ETA: Wow. I'm so impressed by your ability to copy and paste. From which college did YOU matriculate?|||We are saving money, but we will also encourage our sons to do the military route as many boys in our area do. The bonus there is that the military pays your college expenses. And if need be our kids could always get student loans.
My 8 year old goes to private school now and his yearly tuition is $16K.|||my husband and I are trying to save so that we can get a $10,000 CD for each of our kids by their tenth birthday. That will earn quite a bit of interest over the next 8 years, at least enough to get our kids started. We'll also encourage them to do well in school so they can get scholarships and get jobs to save their own money.|||My kids will be going private all the way- there are NO DECENT government schools in my area.
We go out for dinner every week and buy nice clothes, AND put money aside. Thankfully our local private schools are NOT expensive- less than the cost of a small new car for a years schooling at most of them!|||my children's post seconadary education is fully paid for as long as they are living with me... it's through my dead father's pension... applies to his kids and their kids...a s long as they are living with the related parent...
its the only good thing his evil @ss ever did...|||We do both. My husband and I are able to save for our children's education while also splurging every now and then. We do, however, make sure to live within our means.|||my son does not have a college fund, and we do not eat out.....i cant remember the last time we did.
children should not expect the parents to pay for anything once they are 18+|||I go out to dinner and live for the moment. I pay what is due now. Saving now is no different than paying later.|||Neither.|||All 3. Thankfully I don't have to choose.|||My in-laws have complete college funds set up for each of their grandkids...we're all set.
